THE GOLDEN GIRLS

When in doubt, Go with Gold
Fashion Cliff Notes | Outfit Ideas

New Year's Eve is not the occasion to play it safe with your outfit.  Even if you prefer a quiet night at home on this evening of forced gaiety, indulging in a slightly tacky amount of jewelry and sparkle will bring the party to you.

So if you don't own a glittery sequin dress or tie, get one now. Since NYE was yesterday they will all be on sale!!!

This dress is my own creation. The fabric was actually a cast off from couturier, Rogelio Velasco. Years ago I worked at a handbag studio which shared space with Mr. Velasco. I was the lucky intern that was gifted left over fabric too small for his gowns and sample dresses. This tiny piece of gold sequins and black lace was just enough to make a short shift dress. A simple seam on both sides and a channel around the neck line for a black leather tie (from the handbag studio) is all that comprises it. I chose to accessorize with faux thigh highs from Gigi K for added hotness.

My party partner, Robbie, was a perfect match to my gold sequins with his gold lamé tie. It was a purchase from the new H&M in New Orleans. In NOLA it will come in very handy for Saints parties and Mardi Gras balls.

Mixers: Coffee Cocktails

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Wondering how to start your day off right and plain coffee is not working anymore? Voila: The Coffee Bar. Though, perhaps you just want to change up your coffee routine on the weekend and invite some friends over. The Coffee bar is a perfect Brunch prelude.

Coffee is an international drink, but I have many coffee memories growing up in Louisiana. My grandparents could not start the day without a cup of it. So when I slept over as a little girl, they made a cup of coffee milk for me. It was mostly milk with a splash of coffee and a spoon of sugar. It was delicious. I feel now it's already one of those old time stories that parents or grandparents would never do - give a child coffee!?!?!?!?

COFFEE BAR HOW TO:
Offer several mixers to make coffee cocktails, appropriate glasses and mugs, and fresh coffee. Guests can experiment with coffee cocktail recipes which is part of the entertainment.  It's coffee for grown-ups.

Styling: Teeny Bopper Birthday Party

birthday party outfit birthday outfit with balloons colorful birthday outfit

Birthday parties should never be a somber occasion - hence all the bright colors in this outfit. Remember my post from my last birthday?  Last weekend I went to my 9 year old friend's ice skating birthday party. Really, I'm a friend of her parents, but because we have so much in common, she has adopted me as her very own friend - not just a family friend. It's sweet, and she keeps me up to date with slang and new texting acronyms.

This outfit came out looking very Kate Spade. It was not the intention but it did not bother me. I love the Kate Spade image = Happy, Witty and Fun.

While nothing on me is from Kate, this is quite the High End/ Low End Look. This outfit has pieces from Saks 5th Ave to Forever 21.  Though, the best accessory when going to a birthday party is a Bouquet of Balloons. Remember this! It is sure to enhance your entrance at the party.

and now the bits & pieces:
Orange Top - Zara
Embroidered Necklace with Rhinestones - Calypso by Ambre Babzoe
Black Gucci Belt - Saks 5th Ave
Pink Pleated Skirt - Forever 21
Magenta Tights - H&M
Pink Suede Shoes with Gold Glitter heel - TopShop (but MuiMui inspired)
Bouquet of Balloons - Party supply store or Florist

Drink: Pink Champagne on Valentine's Day

WITH 2 NON BLONDES  (fyi: that's Elyse & Me)

All are invited to attend our Art Auction and Valentine's Party next week in Dumbo.

It will be a fun way to spend the holiday drinking pink champagne, getting Yusaku's amazing pop art at auction prices and showing your love when the proceeds go to Get-Set-Go, a non profit that aids Cambodian women.
GETSET-GO is a 501(c)(3) social benefit organization located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It provides high-quality educational opportunities, to empower girls and women to lift themselves out of the trap of poverty, ignorance, abuse and human trafficking; problems which are still widespread in much of the developing world.

Please RSVP by Tuesday, February 12th

OOH LA LA: How to Throw a French Themed Bachelorette Party

 WINE, NECK SCARVES & PASTIES

Parties can happen at any moment when good friends and good company are around.
Paying attention to the details like decor and theme can only make it better.

Parties with Style require a bit of planning, some imagination and a really sweet husband to help out with the details.

For Dana's Bachelorette Party, I decided to go with a French Theme since she is a Francophile and the French give us so many of life's good things.

1) Wine Tasting Tour
We could not spring for a weekend in Bordeaux. But Long Island has great Vineyards and is accessible by the Long Island Railroad. We hired a limo (VZ limo service) to drive us around for the day and brought French CDs to set the mood.

2) Dress UP
Everyone was asked to wear French themed clothes like neck scarves and stripes.

3) Lingerie
Bachelorette Parties are a great time to shower a bride to be with new Lingerie. Pasties are so OOh La La. As a burlesque costume staple, they are quite a surprise in the bedroom. Paired with a "Le Petite Secret" bra from Maison Close and Mange Moi undies... thrilling.

  • French style breakfast the morning after with Coffee, baguette, jam and nutella

**** Special thank you to Ari for providing the Naked Men Magazines!!!!!!!!! What a crazy surprise!!!!! Also for his artistry in cutting some of the guys out of the magazine and pasting them to the front door, placing them in the champagne glasses and under the covers. Our bachelorette party would not have been complete with out it *******  No pictures since this is not an X-rated blog ;)
