As crunch time approached, I could not read one more baby book, baby blog, baby app... I needed a fun read, something that felt like "me" again. Luckily my friend who works for a publishing house passed along one of their newest releases to me, "Champagne Supernovas" by Maureen Callahan, and it could not have been more perfect.Read More

Last month I had the opportunity to work with the founders of
Myself and the bump were featured on a segment called Bump Envy! - what would I wear???
I went with a sexy Rock & Roll approach.
This dress was something I picked up a few years ago when the Mullet dress made it's return. It's funny how last year I was over it, but now it has a completely new shape with my expanding silhouette so it feels new to me. This tight number might even make a better maternity dress than non-maternity.
The black leather trim makes it edgy, especially with a bump. Paired with my new
I am ready to go to CBGBs. Oh wait - it's closed - Ill just stay home and put the Clash on instead. That way I can take naps in between dance sessions.

4_ RECYCLED PUMPKIN - We bought a huge pumpkin for our front stoop in September. It served as a great Fall decoration through Halloween and now the Thanksgiving season. With Christmakah approaching, it's time to go. Though how to give it a proper good buy before the compost heap? Use it as a champagne bucket for Thanksgiving dinner!!!
5_ KITCHEN STORAGE - As we nest and get this entire house ready for this tiny baby, inventive storage is my new favorite thing. These over the cabinet baskets might be my favorite because they require no assembly or installation. Hang over the cabinet door. Done.

When October began, I posted this dress decked out with Orange & Brown Accessories. See outfit
. To switch things up and give this dress an entirely new look I simply changed the accessories. The bump accessory stays :) On a warm day like we had in New York yesterday (hello 72 degrees!) this outfit would have been trés appropriate. For later this week, a cardigan, denim or leather jacket would provide the warmth needed on this sleeveless dress.
What's most fun about this outfit is the mix of materials & colors: Black & white Stripes with Blue tights and Diamond graphic print.
This infinity scarf lends itself to multiple shapes: Doubled, Long and as a Head scarf. There are even more possibilities but I ran out of steam.

Finding outfits for formal or dressy occasions are challenging for most. Now throw a bump into the mix, and we have a real challenge.
I found the most elegant combination
with Jordan's help, of course. It starts with this
dress with gold embroidery detail at the neck line. We all know the shift is not only a groovy shape from the 60's but also a good silhouette for hiding some extra pounds (accommodating a protruding baby bump!).
Alone this dress is simple and elegant. Now, throw on this shear, printed,
and the elegance factor has increased significantly.
This would be really hot for date night with your
a wedding... or any semi-formal occasion you have on your calendar.

Have you noticed yet how much I love furry things?!
When I found this
Boutique I had to build an outfit around it. As Jordan (the manager/ stylist) and I were looking for bump friendly pieces she found these wide elastic waist band
Elastic, Lycra, Spandex - all your friend, bump or no bump
. A solid top would have been the standard choice with such a busy floral print.
But having je ne sais quoi is not about being standard
. So, we searched the boutique for a striped top. With the fur vest, the outfit was complete.
Fur Vests: these have been in vogue for about a decade now. Rachel Zoe really elevated the trend in 2008 with her long shaggy ones. At this point it's safe to say: a fur vest is now a wardrobe staple. It works with separates and dresses. It's a great transition piece for fall or spring (or all winter in Louisiana ;)

This "Swing Dress" by Nadia Tarr is one of the most comfortable yet lavish dresses I have put on during this pregnancy. Thanks to Sopo Boutique in New Orleans I had the chance to experience it. (go online, in person or call Sopo to order any of these items!!!)
This dress is a substantial weight in that luxurious sense. The queen would approve - there is no way a gust of wind is blowing this one up! The material is so soft you could sleep in it. The swing of the skirt makes it a perfect dress for dancing. Can you imagine a twirl in this skirt?! (too bad I forgot to take a video in this) If twirling is not your thing, just sashaying down the street is beautiful with its graceful swish. In other regards, it's forgiving full skirt is great for a bloated day or a 3rd trimester with a big bump. It's a dress to live in.
The accessories are natural in a fun Louisiana centric way: Grand Crawfish Claw Necklace and Stalactite Necklace
For this dress - only heels will do.

Orange is October. I love this month. I love little miniature pumpkins and everything pumpkin flavor. I love that this outfit is almost a Halloween costume yet totally hip for any day. This black & white jersey dress is loose and comfortable rather your have a bump or not. The built in cape like feature adds a touch of sophistication to an otherwise simple dress.
While in Louisiana last week, I worked with manager/ stylist Jordan at JuJu's Boutique to come up with some new fall outfits (bump friendly ones of course)
In Louisiana and even in New York where Indian Summer is in effect, October can still bring warmish days. Arms can still be bare, but brown leggings were added to make it more seasonal. Booties are still hot this year especially with short dresses. Then we threw on all this orange jewelry to make it official - HELLO OCTOBER.

One of the bigger challenges of dressing the bump is dressing it for a Black Tie event. Up until now I have been able to convert most of my bump friendly current wardrobe into maternity wear or buy pieces that will work post bump too. For a Black Tie occasion, there is less wiggle room.
In the spirit of moms uniting, my friend, O, lent me an Alice & Olivia dress she used for a formal event during her pregnancy. It was perfect.
It's incredibly chic and sexy, yet modest for a mom-to-be. With so many billowy fabric details going on, this called for an up-do so that the hair did not distract from the dress.

Strappy Pewter Sandals with just enough heel allowed me to dance all night avec bump (thanks Yoko D!) and this Sheared faux mink kept me cozy on this chilly September evening.
Ari showed off what his outfit could do too, but my favorite part of his ensemble was his take on black patent leather shoes - he opted for Patent Converse! I mean, we do live in Brooklyn. So what.

The time of year between seasons can be a tricky one for the fashionable. The calendar says one thing but the weather says another. For instance, September marks the beginning of fall season yet the temperature can still say summer. How to deal -
This Ribbon Crochet top from Scoop was a great end of the season find. Because of it's loose crochet weave, it grows with my new expanding shape. The texture and Grey-Green color are perfect for this transition time period feeling fall like. Yet the tank cut and airy nature of the crochet keep me cool when its still 85 degrees outside!
As you know by now, I love a little peak of bright color somewhere and these florescent bandeaus have served me well.
and that's how you ease into fall, with a bump.

When one starts to expand into a new pregnant shape, which sometimes feels like in all directions and angles, comfort starts to become key. I find that even thought I can still "fit" in some of my old clothes, I don't LIKE the way I "fit" in them. I've never felt so frumpy as when I try to get dressed with these new masses of body parts.
Finding this dress at J.Crew (not part of their maternity line) was a key find. It's simple and sleek so it doesn't add any unnecessary bulk to my current cargo.
It's thin which keeps me cool in the summer and easy to move around in. Some days dressing up the bump is tons of fun. Other days simplicity is key.
The accessories is where things can stay complex, or shall I say articulate.
For most of summer we head East to Montauk, East Hampton and other Long Island beaches. Sometimes we go North for a more granola vibe in the Catskills. Yet last weekend we tried something completely new - THE JERSEY SHORE - more specifically: ATLANTIC CITY !!!
It's a place I've been curious about for a while now. I mean, how could I not be curious about a place with the persona of flashy lights, flashy casinos and flashy women. While packing I went with my gut (or bump) instinct and packed for the Glam Beach look mixed with a little Brooklyn.
My bump did not lead me wrong. My sequins, animal print, flourescent bikini and gold heat transfer designs were a perfect fit.
WHAT TO PACK FOR ATLANTIC CITY:
For the Casino -
Sequins & accessorize with a poker visor
My Brooklyn touch is the full denim skirt. Could be worn with heels but I kept my MK sandal wedges on from the day.
|Tank - J.Crew, Skirt - Gap, Wedges - MK Michael Kors, Visor - Vintage|
For the Beach -
Animal print is alive and well in AC. Thank god I had this zebra print coverup which I pretty much just keep around these days in my costume drawer. I felt perfectly in place with it here. It even had the prerequisite AC glitz with a gold braided belt! In the case of flip flops, plain old Havaianas will not do. Studded sandals are way more appropriate.
Underneath, I had a multi color flourescent bikini. Those pictures I'll leave out. I feel like I'll be exposing the baby all nakies !!!
|Top - Old H&M, Skirt - Belly Band, Wooden Jewelry from Bali, Sunglasses - Reed Krakoff, Bag - Jamin Puech, Sandals - Matt Bernson|
For Saturday Night -
I found, in the back of my closet (near the zebra cover-up), a dress that I usually find too flamboyant for even me. Its gold heat transfer flamingos don't typically fit the venues I visit these days. But Saturday night in AC, it had the chance for a revival. It's just revealing enough, but no to much for a mom-to-be ;) On the feet and shoulders, I went Brooklyn with Rachel Comey shoeties and a Gap Chambray shirt. Every other girl had on glittery platform stilettos!! Not afraid of the boardwalk at all - Very Impressive. But I had to stick to my style, somewhat.
The only thing missing to make all of these the absolute perfect AC ensembles is..... Can you guess ???
... Nail Art ! I didn't have the time and that is a bad excuse for a fashion blogger (but I do things other than blog). So just note: to complete your Atlantic City look - get yourself some NAIL ART.
Luck be a lady tonight.
When I found out I was pregnant I vowed to not loose my unique style, not spend a fortune on maternity clothes I could never wear again or blog about babies. So far i'm sticking to it (but who knows what will happen when it comes to blogging about babies once this adorable thing arrives!)
By July 4th I could not button my pants anymore and things were starting to look frumpy in my new softer body. It was time to re-evaluate my closet and go shopping for a few new things.
While I have yet to find a maternity line I really like, I knew my old favorite, AllSaints, would do the trick. They are known for their de-structured cuts and flowy shapes.
In July you can always score with end of summer sales even tho summer is hardly over.
This dress was perfect. The print is really cool. It looks like a mélange of a flower and an xray. The back panel is a stretchy knit so it makes the dress roomy for protruding parts. I also think it's really cool to wear a short dress when your preggers (tho mind your manners as it's harder to cross your legs when you sit as you get bigger)
