If you know what it means to have "Breakfast at Tiffany's" then you are part of a special society who most likely loves fashion, New York City, Audrey Hepburn and Truman Capote. During a friend's Adventure to NYC this summer, we recreated the opening scene of Breakfast at Tiffany's so that she could walk in the shoes of one of her favorite icons: Audrey Hepburn. Now that is Adventure.
STEP ONE: Find a silver cart that sells coffee and pastries. A Starbucks coffee is not going to work. These carts are a relic that still serve New Yorkers on their way to the office. Note that after 10:30 a.m. it's harder to find one so don't do Brunch at Tiffany's. Purchase a Coffee and Pastry for props. (and FYI the vendor liked Kylie so much her breakfast was on the house. see it "pays" to look nice)
STEP TWO: Head to the corner of 5th Avenue and 57th St. In the movie a cab drives up 5th and stops in front of Tiffany's. But traffic actually travels south on 5th Ave so this would not be possible. On this walk along 57th St. you can get even more window shopping in!!! This is the block between Madison & 5th Avenue.
STEP THREE: When you reach Tiffany's, tip your sunglasses down and gaze into the window.
STEP FOUR: Peek inside your brown bag
STEP FIVE: Hold your gaze and take a bite out of desired pastry. Croissant is a good choice but, wow, bear claw is even better!!
STEP SIX: The dress code - LONG BLACK DRESS, PEARLS, DARK SUNGLASSES AND AN UP-DO. Any long, sleeveless black dress will do. In fact, I like the modern touch Kylie added with a dress that has a sheer bottom. A pearl necklace is essential, as well as a top knot bun. More jewelry can be added like earring and a hair clip, but the dress, pearls, sunglasses and up-do are the essentials to tell the story.
STEP SEVEN: The city is yours - keep exploring
HERE IS THE OPENING SCENE TO BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S - BEWARE, NOW YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO CURL UP ON THE COUCH AND WATCH THE WHOLE THING.
