BABY ROOM | HOME DECOR
When I considered having a baby, I knew it would involve many personal sacrifices. Loosing my walk-in closet was one of the biggest! Obviously, we live in Brooklyn. While it's a bit more spacious than Manhattan, space is still hard to come by, unless you're loaded. Before having a baby our apartment was huge - huge enough to turn this "second" bedroom into my walk-in closet.
As we phased out co-sleeping in our room, it was time to finally create a special place just for the baby. Really, once it was complete, I wanted to sleep in there as it was now the best room in the house.
This is how it started:
this is the back wall where the crib is now
this is the corner near the window. the chest is where the white chair is now.
This corner is where the dresser/ changing table are now.
Step one: PAINT
I was inspired by a
on my friend, Mieke ten Have's
The blue color in the interior photo was very regal and made me think of Marie Antoinette - perfect for my little boy's room. haha
I found the perfect match in Benjamin Moore paints : Nantucket Fog
Step two: ACCENT
With such a serious wall color for a little boys room, I chose a funky orange to accent the room. The polka dot rug from Ikea could not have been more perfect. The dots give it the fun zip every child's room needs.
Step three: DECOR
Many children's toys and books and clothes are too cute to hide. So instead of storing it all way, let it serve double duty as room decor. This also makes it easier to see what you have to play with. This open shelving system is great for a small room like this one and serves as a nice display.
Step four: COZY
Make it cozy with treasures like sentimental gifts, plants from friends, a new orleans map blanket, throw pillows for sitting on the floor, and a white noise machine.
and Voila - Now we have a nursery.
