COCKTAIL BAGS

A Real Party Accessory
Fashion Cliff Notes | Handbag of the Moment

Over the weekend I met some girl friends for a bit of late night perusing at the MET. We went especially to see the JAR exhibit: a show of intricate jewels dripping in diamonds. Because, what is more fun than drooling over stuff you cannot have? I suppose, admiring something from a distance is what this is called. Well, after contemplating all of this great cocktail jewelry I inevitably starting thinking about cocktail bags. Many of his jeweled sculptures were derived from flowers and pretty straight forward.  Of all the pieces in the show, those that made the best impression on me were the ones with a sense of humor. While these were also derived from nature, like animals and vegetables, these had a more surreal twist to them which I find more suitable as cocktail attire.

This brings me to choosing the appropriate cocktail accessories: think conversation piece. Cocktail Parties are filled primarily with 2 things: Cocktails and Conversation. The cocktails help to get the conversation going, but a clever accessory can do the same thing.

If you choose to go with the classic little black dress for this holiday season of cocktail parties, then consider pairing it with a real conversation piece. Judith Leiber bags are the archetypal minaudière for ladies who cocktail, but for a modern girl, these designers are straight up.
