Fashion Note: COLORS OF SUMMER

Designers are known for taking trips to far flung exotic locations for design inspiration. I notice most are inspired by island locations and ritzy resorts.

Some can be inspired by home. This weekend I was in southern Louisiana and found endless color inspiration in the bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables. A trip to the country side involved bike rides on rural roads, where I helped a turtle cross the road and picked figs in my parents yard.

Everyone around here seems to have a green thumb. There is a garden or fruit tree in every yard and it is all up for trades. My dad and I traded some of our figs for banana peppers and homemade pepper jelly with Jessie's parents.

Fashion inspired by nature happens often and for good reason. This fruit is as beautiful to look at as it is to consume. Something must first captivate the eye before it captivates the palate. The colors of the figs gradiate from deep purple to a buttery yellow. They are as gorgeous as and frock on the runway.

This Spring / Summer 2012 Dolce and Gabbana used fruit and vegetables in a very literal interpretation. It's no surprise that in a society where food is as good as Italian and as important to the culture, Domenico and Stefano were spending much of their downtime surrounded by tremendous amounts of food.
